NATIONAL NIGHT OUT A WINNER

The 2024 National Night Out was a huge success Aug. 6, when the Sea Isle City Police Department hosted the annual evening of fun at Excursion Park.

Each year, the event encourages the community to come together and enjoy a night filled with food, games, and freebies. The event also featured local first responders and several local Sea Isle businesses.

Police Capt. Steven Conte highlighted the importance of hosting events that encourage the community to get to know local law enforcement.

“The importance of this event cannot be overstated,” he said. “It all comes down to community, and the partnership we all have together. Police departments don’t operate on an island, we do so with the support, assistance, and direction of our community. We work together as a team, and this event reminds us all of that.”

He added: “We want them to have a fun night out with their family. But, most importantly, we want them to know that we are there for you, and we are all part of the same community.”

Mark your calendars: Next summer’s National Night Out is tentatively set for Aug 5. Be sure to stop by for a night of fun, food, and new friends.

PENNSAUKEN POLICE GROW FACIAL HAIR FOR SIC AUTISM CHARITY

If the Pennsauken Police Department seemed a little fuzzier a few months ago, it was for a very good reason. More than 30 officers in the department participated in a No-Shave April that resulted in a $1,000 donation to Mike’s Seafood Run/Walk for Autism, the Sea Isle City-based charity.

Police Chief Philip Olivo allowed those who made a $30 donation to grow facial hair, which normally is against the department’s grooming policy.

Sgt. Gavin Rossner presented Run/Walk organizer Mike Monichetti with a $1,000 donation on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

The department is committed to educating its officers and raising autism awareness in the community. It offers “Occupant with Autism” stickers to the public to be displayed on vehicles or front doors to alert their officers during traffic stops or calls for service that they may be interacting with someone on the autism spectrum.

“We would like to thank Sgt. Rossner and officers from the Pennsauken Township Police Department for coordinating this event and raising money for children with disabilities,” said Monichetti. “It really means so much to our organization to have the support of local and area Police Departments and other community organizations from all over South Jersey.”

The 17th annual Mike’s Seafood Run/Walk for Autism will be held Feb. 15, 2025. Proceeds from the event benefit Special Services Schools, Autism Support Groups, Families of Special Needs Children, and Autism Speaks. Following the 5K run and 1-mile walk, there will be live music, an awards ceremony, and more fun at Excursion Park.

CHAMBER SPONSORS SHOOTING STARS EVENT

The Sea Isle Chamber of Commerce & Revitalization sponsored the Shooting Stars Basketball Clinic on July 31, the sixth of seven consecutive Wednesday nights when the Shooting Stars took the courts at Dealy Field. Shooting Stars Basketball welcomes children and young adults ages 6-21 with special needs.

In addition to basketball, the night was filled with plenty of food and fun. The Oar House Pub donated water, Mike’s Seafood donated pizza, and Shorebreak Cafe donated cookies for all of the participants and volunteers to enjoy. Chris Williamson of Goldcoast Sotheby’s International Realty also sponsored a giveaway for the players of little basketballs.

“Our Sea Isle businesses were thrilled to sponsor and support the Shooting Stars program this summer,” said Amy Glancey, vice president of the Sea Isle Chamber of Commerce & Revitalization and CMO of Shorebreak Resorts. “The kids had a lot of fun, and our chamber sponsors were happy to show up and support them.

“Community events bring people together and provide chances for interaction and collaboration. If you haven’t been to a Shooting Stars event, I urge you to join in on the fun and see the smiles on all the kids’ faces and volunteers!”

The chamber expressed its appreciation to the SIC Recreation Department and Mary Shields for making the event possible and allowing the chamber to participate in such a wonderful program.
