Letter From the Publisher
Dear Readers:
I don’t know about you, but I just LOVE this time of the year at the Shore. You can feel the energy as the homes begin to fill … the lifeguards are back on the beach … seasonal businesses reopen for the summer … and we publish one of our biggest issues of the year. Ready? Let’s get this summer started!
This issue is jam-packed with lots of great features. First, I hope that you’ve brought your appetites back with you because this is when we introduce you to chefs of Sea Isle City. It’s time to make your dinner plans. This list will help. And while you’re planning for dinner, be sure to check out Here’s The Dish: Christian Maher, one of the guys who’s been making magic over at Mike’s Seafood for more than two decades, shares some of his secrets along with a special recipe.
We’re excited to be able to report that after a two-year COVID-dictated
absence that Peyton’s Promise returns to Sea Isle City this summer. Great fun for a great cause, we’ll tell you all about it.
You might or might not be aware, but our own Anthony Raffa went “old school” this past winter. After a career on the international hardwood, Anthony went back to his old school, Wildwood Catholic Academy, to be their head boys’ basketball coach. A great tradition at that school, and who knows it better than Anthony?
Speaking of old school, do you remember Karen Zurcher? She was Miss Sea Isle City 50 years ago, in 1972. We’ve caught up with the now Karen Marino at her home on the Rhode Island coast and we’ll bring you up to date with Karen.
Then Dave Bontempo will bring you up to rowing speed on a NASCAR-like event of boats that you might see in the back bays this summer.
Our Lifetime Legacy honors the life of Etta Creighton, a life well-lived by a person who made an impact and difference here in Sea Isle City.
And so that we don’t lose sight of the true meaning of what Memorial Day is all about, we’ll tell you the inspirational story of Navy SEAL David Tapper, who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.
Plus, all the great features that you’ve come to expect including our Events at a Glance, Financially Speaking, the hottest “must haves,” and the Sea Isle word search, plus lots, lots more.
Please take time this weekend to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed so much. Stay safe and let’s kick off what I know is going to be an incredible summer here in Sea Isle City.
Sincerely,
Monica Coskey
