The Love Story Behind the Man Who Brings Smiles to Sea Isle

When I met Lou Minchelli, 91, and his wife Dolly, 88, he had just gotten out of the hospital after a brief stay. Dolly stays close and reminds him to take it easy for our interview.

“Don’t talk too much, Louie,” she says. “Save your energy.”

Sea Isle City has its latest version of the Fab Four.

Jim Guntle, Bill Feaster Jr., Jordy Troyan and Rob Herzog have been selected as inductees for the 2021 Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Alumni Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will be held Oct. 2 at Carmen’s Seafood Restaurant in Sea Isle City in late afternoon. The public is invited.

As we move into August, the summer days seem to just get hotter, so you will need a refreshing cocktail to stay cool! The Ocean Drive Sandbar & Grill is the perfect spot to head to after a long beach day, as they offer a variety of tasty cold drinks, delicious cuisine, and even live entertainment!

This is how anyone would want to be remembered.

Frank Edwardi’s legacy as a kind, nurturing human being, beloved by the Sea Isle City community, is a rich one.

The impact of his life first is a visual one. It can be measured by the overwhelming presence of several hundred mourners at his funeral July 9.

What Better Way to Start an August Day?

I love opening the door on August mornings. Warm sunshine invites me outside for a walk through my garden full of a new day’s surprises – the cucumber that appears behind a large leaf like delicious summer magic, the newly ripened tomatoes and peppers, and the fragrance of the homegrown herbs – it really is the best part of my day.

Sand evokes wonderful memories. Burying your toes in the sand, sandy shoes on the back porch, building sand castles, or the glory of waves lapping up on the sand all have special meaning. The mere mention of the word “sand” can bring a smile to one’s face, a relaxing calm, and a longing for the shore.

Food and movies: Love ’em both.

We certainly have an appetite for both, especially when they show up together.

And what do we do with a great meal? Why, we eat it right up, right? Just as we do with a terrific movie.

We wait all year for these hot summer nights and this August surely won’t disappoint! Whether you enjoy happy hour with your toes in the sand or a nice dinner for two, there is something for everyone to do here in Sea Isle City. “Hot summer nights” means more than one thing. The scene is hot, that’s for sure, but so is the temperature.

Jack Gibson was elected Sea Isle City Council president during the council reorganization meeting July 1. Gibson was nominated by Mary Tighe and elected unanimously to the one-year term of office.

Katie Steele and Rob Fisher became engaged on June 11 in a private garden at the Ritz Carlton in Philadelphia. Katie is the daughter of Renny and Barb Steele of Sea Isle City. Rob is the son of Rob and Ellen Fisher, of Coatesville, Pa.
