Many Sea Isle City residents now know of the Purple Heart medal and artifacts from late World War II veteran Leo Weber being returned to his family June 10.

In the early-morning hours of Sunday, June 11, a tanker truck exploded and caught fire underneath Interstate 95 at Cottman Avenue in Philadelphia, causing the northbound lanes on the highway to collapse and traffic in both directions to come to a screeching halt … for the foreseeable future.

People were rushing around and busily going about their morning errands on a recent Friday morning. Busy, but not too busy to notice that a change had taken place next to St. Joseph Church on 44th Street.

Antonio “Jumbo” Cannavo was born in Italy in 1888 and emigrated to the United States after being honorably discharged from the Italian Navy. He eventually settled in Sea Isle City and found employment as a commercial fisherman, working with the Pradico-LaRosa Fish Pound Company.

If every beachgoer was counted once each day, like fans at Citizens Bank Park, local beaches would claim several million people in attendance each summer.

This story first ran in August 2021. Sadly, Lou Minchelli passed away this spring. We will miss his endless smiles and his homemade turtle gifts that he shared with everyone in town. He truly is a legend and Sea Isle won’t be the same without him.

VFW POST 1963, AUXILIARY INSTALL NEW OFFICERS

The members of Post 1963’s Auxiliary and the Veterans of VFW Post 1963 of Sea Isle City administered the oaths of office to their 2023 officers in two separate gatherings.

Jack Thomas Forster was born May 2 to parents Jennifer and Kyle Forster of Spanish Fort, Ala. He arrived weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 21½ inches long.

Over the years, I’ve written many articles about things we all face, including topics expanding on financial planning, investing for the future, and educating our children, but today it’s about retirement.
